The Big Book of Breakfast: Serious Comfort Food for Any Time of the Day for $7.00
Cheap The Big Book of Breakfast: Serious Comfort Food for Any Time of the Day Discount Review Shop
I own a number of breakfast cookbooks, but I think this one is the best. The book has over 300 pages of recipes that are simple and easy to follow. I enjoy cooking a nice breakfast on the weekends, but I don't want to spend all morning in the kitchen - these recipes are quick enough that I don't have to. Also, just paging through the cookbook one morning I was able to find recipes that use ingredients that I had on-hand. So I can use it even when I haven't planned ahead!
The book includes a number of recipes for different types of breakfast foods. A few favorites are:
breakfast beverages
omelets
frittatas
quiche
breakfast casseroles
french toast
pancakes & waffles
crepes and blintzes
potatoes
breakfast breads
fruits
Each category contains a nice variety of recipes so you can try out different flavors (like Greek-Style crepes, crab & shrimp crepes and blueberry-peach dessert crepes). This cookbook also got me inspired to experiment a bit and use ideas from different recipes to create something of my own. (for some reason, no other cookbook has inspired me that way...)
Other reviewers mentioned that there are no photos, but that didn't matter too much to me. I thought the recipes were mouth-watering yet simple and this is one cookbook that will definitely get used in my kitchen!

Cooking with Daniel Boulud for $43.99

Although there are a few dishes at Daniel's which I wish were present in this book, this book contains recipes which are highly enjoyable both to make as well as to consume.
The recipes can be complicated at time, but they are well-depicted. The reader need not consult other cooking manuals for an explanation of ingredients or techniques or processes. The dishes, if well-followed, produce delectable results, even if the undertaking was somewhat grand. Though the binding of my copy of the book has fallen apart though excessive use, it is probably the only component of the book about whose quality I have doubts.

Love this guy! My son-in-law, the chef, and daughter told me about this book. Alton Brown teaches CHEF's types of techniques. For instance: I never could get breading right! It was always a mess and fell off, ultimately. Now I know why: my ingredients were fine! My technique was awful!
Brown writes in a down-to-earth, sometimes humorous way that makes one want to actually READ this entire book!
Thanks, Alton!

Cheap Cooking Around the World All-in-One for Dummies Discount Review Shop
I adore this book. It's a great way to sample each individual cookbook without having to splurge on the full text! For example, I like Chinese, Italian, and Mexican, but always wanted to try French and Greek. The directions are very clear, but a lot of the ingredients are hard to find. Luckily, I live in an area with a lot of little ethnic areas, so I can find most items. This could cause a problem if you don't (ordering the items from the internet would get really expensive). Yet, once you get a hold of this book, you know that maybe you can't find a lot of the items for say, Indian cooking, then at least you didn't waste your money on that full text, without being able to make anything. Once you have everything, though, you can cook like a pro!

Cheap Understanding Wine Technology: The Science of Wine Explained, New Edition Discount Review Shop
Contrary to popular belief, this is not a winemaking textbook, rather it is a great look into the process of winemaking as it would pertain to a wine industry employee or wine expert. Anyone seriously trying to make wine should either view 'From Vines to Wines' by Jeff Cox (for home winemakers) or attend UC Davis (for large scale winemakers).
As a Master of Wine student, I have found this to be a great addition to my wine library. Paired with the Oxford Wine Companion and Halliday's 'The Art and Science of Wine' this makes for a solid read.
Pros: beautiful diagrams, great writing, wonderful knowledge
Cons: some topics lack depth, paperback
